FIRST PRESIDENT ELECTED

At the reunion in Las Vegas RP turned the gavel over to me because he had not had a lot of experience running a meeting.  So I had the gavel.  As you can see we elected two officers, Joe and myself.  When I asked for nominations for President, some one at this one table nominated Joe Thomas.  I asked if there were any other nominations, receiving none, someone from same table made a motion that we close the nominations.  Hearing no voice to the contrary, I closed the nominations.  I did not know who Joe was and so I asked if he would accept the nomination.  The same table told me that he was in the head, but he had told them he would accept if elected.  So hearing that, I asked for a vote and Joe received a unanimous vote.  You can imagine Joe's surprise upon returning to the room when I informed him that he had been elected President.  He graciously accepted the position but told me later, that all the people at the table with him were officers with him, and he had just been railroaded.  He said "I will never go to the head again when a vote is being taken by my shipmates".
