This was the largest attendance we have had at
any reunion, including Ponchatoula in 2003. We had several shipmates
attending their first PONCH reunion, and for some, this was their
very first reunion. We also had a shipmate join the Association at
this reunion. Our President Dave Schneider presented Larry Norris
(BM3, Sep67 to Aug69) with his membership card. I announced that
Larry had stated that if the shipmates wanted to visit him he could
accommodate all of us and would take advantage of our experience
with a "swab". Larry’s business card reads Larry B.
Norris, Director, Department of Correction, State of Arkansas.
The food at our arrival BBQ and our Reunion
Banquet was excellent. Sharron Gwin and her staff at Gwin’s Home
Cannery did an exceptional job. The free continental breakfast every
morning at the Cannery was good also and most of us met there every
morning to partake of the goodies.
Attending the Shoji Tabuchi Theatre was the
highlight of the reunion for many. 51 of us had the pleasure of
hearing and seeing a "very accomplished" violinist and
showman. Many of our shipmates and their wives attended several
of the other entertainment venues available in Branson. They must
have enjoyed themselves because I did not hear any complaints.
The 50/50 Drawing was
won by Larry Hamm. Congratulations Larry. I hope you gave Carmen
her half. Again this year, our President Dave Schneider donated
pictures of the "PONCH" that were given away via ticket
drawing.
A financial statement was presented to the
membership at our Annual Business Meeting by the
Secretary/Treasurer. The statement was accepted and approved by the
membership present.
